On January 24th at 5pm in SSMS 2135, UC Irvine Art History professor Bert Winther-Tamaki will lecture about the soil, dirt, sand, and clay deposited in Japanese installation art during and after the Bubble Economy (1980s-90’s), arguing that earth did not serve as a neutral medium, but instead, the soil indicates the artwork’s journey through contemporaneous Japan.
This event is co-sponsored by the departments of History of Art & Architecture and East Asian Languages & Cultural Studies.
