On May 4th from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. in SSMS 4315, The Graduate Center for Literary Research will collaborate with the UCSB Memory Studies Reading Group to examine interactions between memory and movement through an interdisciplinary conference. UCLA English professor Michael Rothberg will give the keynote talk on “The Implicated Subject: Beyond Victims and Perpetrators.” He will argue that the positions of victim, bystander, and perpetrator are not sufficient to explain injustice. He proposes a new position: the implicated subject, a person who benefits from the privilege of injustice without being a direct agent of harm.
