Moderated by Dr. Jeffrey C. Stewart, 2019 Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The New Negro
Monday, October 19, 5:00 PM - Online

Presented by UCSB Arts & Lectures.

"What do you do after you have written Stamped From the Beginning, an award-winning history of racist ideas?... If you're Ibram X. Kendi, you craft another stunner of a book… the most courageous book to date on the problem of race in the Western mind." The New York Times

One of America's foremost historians and leading antiracist voices, Dr. Ibram X. Kendi is the bestselling author of How to Be an Antiracist and the National Book Award-winning Stamped From the Beginning: A Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America. His relentless and passionate research questions the notion of a post-racial society and opens readers' and audiences' eyes to the reality of racism in America today. Kendi's lectures are sharp, informative and hopeful, serving as a strong platform for any institution's discussions on racial discrimination. A 2019 Guggenheim Fellow, Kendi is the Andrew W. Mellon Professor in the Humanities at Boston University and the founding director of the B.U. Center for Antiracist Research. He is a contributing writer at The Atlantic and a CBS News correspondent. He will also become the 2020-2021 Frances B. Cashin Fellow at the Radcliffe Institute for the Advanced Study at Harvard University.

This presentation will be followed by a Q&A with the audience.

This online event requires that a virtual ticket be obtained in advance - tickets are free to UCSB students, and $10 for the general public. Get more information and secure tickets here.
