UNLEARNING: RACE, SPACE, AND ART WITH PRATHAMA BANERJEE
MONDAY, MARCH 15, 2021 - 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM - ONLINE
Presented by History of Art and Architecture.
As part of the History of Art and Architecture discussion series Unlearning: Race, Space, and Art, Prathama Banerjee, professor at the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies in Delhi, India, will discuss her book Elementary Aspects of the Political.
In the book, Banerjee moves beyond postcolonial and decolonial critiques of European political philosophy to rethink modern conceptions of "the political" from the perspective of the global South. Drawing on Indian and Bengali practices and philosophies from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Banerjee identifies four elements of the political: the self, action, the idea, and the people.
