Department of Art Chair Shana Moulton explores the surreal aesthetics of wellness and everyday life during her recent Humanities Decanted discussion
Department of Art Chair Shana Moulton recently brought her hyper-saturated vision of wellness and everyday life to the Interdisciplinary Humanities Center (IHC) for its Humanities Decanted series. Moulton explored her multi-media practice, including her 2024 MoMA exhibition "Meta/Physical Therapy," and discussed the decades-long development of her semi-autobiographical alter ego, Cynthia.
Working in video, performance and installation, Moulton captures the banality and enormity of everyday life while navigating personal choices and physical limitations. “Shana Moulton’s iconic performance persona, Cynthia, embodies the complexities of contemporary life," said Erica Papernik-Shimizu, MoMA associate curator of media and performance.
