The Center for Taiwan Studies (CTS) at UC Santa Barbara promotes interdisciplinary research and cultural events to enhance the understanding of Taiwanese culture in its regional and global contexts. Affiliated with the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultural Studies, CTS connects UCSB faculty, students, and the public with leading scholars and artists from around the world.
To advance its mission, the Center:
- Hosts events on Taiwanese culture, society, and the arts.
- Funds visiting scholars and provides graduate student fellowships.
- Supports undergraduate and graduate student research.
- Organizes public lectures, conferences, and workshops.
CTS was founded in 2003 by Professor Kuo-Ch’ing Tu. The Center is now under the leadership of Professor Howard Chiang, who holds the Lai Ho and Wu Cho-liu Endowed Chair in Taiwan Studies.
