In the colonial space, the imperial language presents itself as superior to the local indigenous vernaculars. Souleymane Bachire Diagne (Professor of French and Philosophy, Columbia University) will lecture on the act of translation and how it creates linguistic equality and reciprocity in the colonial environment.
This event is sponsored by the Graduate Center for Literary Research and will be held on January 17th from 4-6pm in SSMS room 4315, the Wallis Annenberg Conference Room.
