Division to sponsor two students for 2026 Publishing Workshop

The Division of Humanities and Fine Arts is partnering with the Los Angeles Review of Books to sponsor two graduate students for the 2026 Publishing Workshop.

The workshop is a five-week intensive summer program designed to revolutionize the publishing industry from the ground up. Running online from June 22 to July 24, 2026, the curriculum focuses on the business and production side of literature rather than creative writing. It is designed for students looking to translate their research and teaching skills into careers in the humanities and publishing-adjacent fields. Alumni of the program have gone on to roles as editors, literary agents, audiobook producers and non-profit arts administrators.

Fellows will choose between a book or magazine production track. By the end of the summer, fellows will have produced a real publication, such as PubLab magazine or a book prototype.

Participants will attend lectures with more than 60 industry leaders from organizations including Harper’s Magazine, The Getty Research Institute, Penguin Random House and Farrar, Straus and Giroux.

Speakers include Adam Levy, founder of Transit Books; Katie Dublinski, associate publisher of Graywolf Press; Jamia Wilson, vice president and executive editor at Penguin Random House; and Rebecca Saletan, editorial director of Riverhead Books.

Funding and Application

HFA graduate students who apply and are accepted into the program will be automatically considered for the Divisional scholarship. Scholarships are limited. Accepted students should notify the Dean’s office immediately to initiate the funding review process.

Applications are open now through March 15.

Virtual info sessions will be held Jan. 15, Feb. 5 and Feb. 17. Students may register for an info session online or visit the LARB Publishing Workshop website to apply.
