Humanities and Fine Arts programs were part of the universitywide celebration marking Chancellor Dennis Assanis’ inauguration
Arts, dance and public humanities were part of the universitywide events marking Chancellor Dennis Assanis’ inauguration as UC Santa Barbara’s sixth chancellor.
The program included a performance by the UCSB Dance Company, a preprofessional student dance company in the Department of Theater and Dance. The dancers performed “We Were Light,” choreographed by Annalise Evans, with rehearsal assistance by Susu Bhaduri and music by Khruangbin.
The performance featured dancers Carly Armitage, Delila Bertelsen, Susu Bhaduri, Taytum Cameron, Ava Dwyer, Linn Molin and LeeAnn Smith. The company is under the direction of Delila Moseley, artistic director of the UCSB Dance Company and continuing lecturer in the Department of Theater and Dance.
The inauguration events also reflected the role of the humanities and arts in the university’s public mission, with references to campus strengths including the Carsey-Wolf Center, library scholarship and interdisciplinary work connecting culture, history, creativity and public life.
